If anybody or a rural organization locally ever again says #Twitter isn’t necessary because they use #Facebook, I’ll say: You’d better look at the ripple effect of the hashtag #AnnaSwims across rural Norfolk County and far beyond.

Twitter is about conversation. And Twitter nailed that with #AnnaSwims as 16-year-old Annaleise Carr of Norfolk County swam across Lake Erie on July 25-26 to raise money for Camp Trillium. Celebrities, pro sports teams, pro athletes, media, rural folks and urbanites used Twitter for what amounted to a 48-hour tweeting celebration of the amazing teen and her swim journey.
